My Thoughts
I've recently received a few emails from people that are feeling down and unhappy. So I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts on dealing with times when you are feeling down.
It helps to remember that we all go through cycles. Sometimes we are feeling great and at other times we feel lost and hopeless. It's a natural part of life. In our down moments we are offered the opportunity to learn more about ourselves. We can ask what is the source of this unhappiness? And if we are willing to be honest and explore our inner selves a bit we can often work through issues and grow. I find that meditation has really helped me over the last two years. It really allows us to become aware of our thoughts and feelings. I know that's not an easy task, but it is certainly worthwhile.
Secondly, you can put things in perspective. If you've been focusing on what you don't have, focus on what you do have. Spend ten minutes writing down what you are grateful for. You can also ask yourself how bad is my situation really? Compared to (the homeless person I see everyday, the person that just lost their family, etc...) how bad is my situation? You can also read inspirational books and articles about people that have dealt with struggle and came out on top.
Lastly, It helps to remember that life offers us lessons. Sometimes (or maybe most times) they don't come up at convenient times, and we may not want to learn whatever the lesson is. If you are a spiritual person I recommend praying for guidance, strength, patience, and understanding.
Remember you are never given a burden that you can not handle.
Have an awesome week.

If the answer is no, continue to question 3. If the answer is yes, then you can stop reading.

If the answer is yes, continue to question 4. If the answer is no, then you can stop reading.

My Thoughts
How many books on average do you read a year? How many of those are non-fiction? How many of those give advice? How often do you act on that advice?
As for me, I generally read one book a week. Now of course this varies greatly depending on the book. Right now I am working my way through the Bhagavad-Gita. I've been reading it for the past month or so. Almost all of the books that I read these days are non-fiction. Not that there is anything wrong with a great fiction book, but due to my chosen profession I want (and need) to read a lot of non-fiction. To the best of my ability I apply the things I read.
I hope this story illustrates the point better.
Many people often ask me why I became a coach. It's a great question and the short answer is that I wanted to somehow help people. But that doesn't really hit the point home.
Back in 2008 I had stumbled across the book 'Think and Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill. As I read the book I was stunned. Why? Because I had used the principles in the book my whole life without really knowing it. I had gone from being dead broke in 2003 to earning 150 million won a year in just three years by using those principles. I had gone from a horribly skinny man at 130lbs (59kgs) to a healthy 220lbs (100kgs) by using those principles. So I knew they worked.
I wanted to share the principles in 'Think and Grow Rich' with the world, but I didn't think anyone would listen. About a month or so later, I was watching a DVD with Bob Proctor speaking at an event in Canada. As he was talking he pulled out a copy of 'Think and Grow Rich' and explained how he read the book everyday since the early 1960's. At that moment I realized I needed to talk to Bob Proctor.
I got in touch with him and found out about getting certified as a coach. It was a massive time and money commitment. However, intuitively I knew it was the right choice to make so I went with it. Then in 2009 I had another decision to make. Do I stay with the comfort, safety, and security of my previous job, or do I risk everything and pursue my dream? Well I already knew the answer, so the choice was simple. Of course I risked everything.
Has it been easy? Not at all. The past two years of my life have been the most challenging I have ever experienced. But I learned more than I could have ever imagined in that time, and I've grown tremendously. I wouldn't change a thing.
This week I challenge all of you to jump the knowing-doing gap. Do the thing you know you want to do. Step outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself.
Have an amazing week.

Failure
“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
-Winston Churchill
My Thoughts
I am sure most of you know that life doesn’t always work out as you planned. No matter how much we would like to be able to control everything, it just doesn’t work like that.
So, what do you do if you set a goal(s) and you fail?
What do you do when nothing seems to be working?
Well, first recognize that it’s not failure until you ultimately decide to give up completely.
Second, accept the fact that you will have setbacks along the way. Some of these setbacks will appear major at the time. Remember that you can learn something from these. These are life’s lessons. If nothing seems to be working you don’t have to change the goal, but maybe it’s time you change your approach to the goal. Perhaps there are other paths that you haven’t explored yet.
Finally, always remember even though you can’t always control life you can control your attitude towards life.
Until next time...

Results
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
-Albert Einstein
My Thoughts
We often have heard that we learn not from studying information but by doing, or by experiencing. However, that is not quite true. If it was we would never make the same mistake twice. Real learning takes place from evaluated experience. Of course this can be tough, since you are the one going through the experience.
Are there results that you would like to change in your life? Maybe related to your work? Education? Health? Relationships? etc...I am sure the answer to that question for most people is yes. The question then becomes: have you actually taken steps to change? If no, and you keep expecting different results, I ask that you reread the quote above. If yes, is it working? Are you doing everything you can to facilitate this change?
I would encourage all of you that are seeking change to surround yourself with people heading in the direction you are aiming for. This will give you the focus and energy to see things through until the end.
Until next time....

Learning
"Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors"
-African Proverb
My opinion:
We all face tough situations in our life. Sometimes it may seem like no matter what we do nothing seems to work.
However, instead of asking ourselves "Why is this happening to me?", let us try to look at what these situations are teaching us. All of our greatest experiences and all of our worst experiences have made us into the people we are today. Remember, life is about growth and learning from good and bad experiences.
What can you learn today?
Until next time....
